Ankle Bracing

Ankle Braces

Ankle braces are designed to provide stability or complete immobilisation of the ankle joint. They may be used post injury, prophylactically or post-surgery. At Chin and Partners, our orthotist will assess, measure, and fit you with the required ankle support.

Off the Shelf (OTS)

These braces range from simple elasticated support braces to more complex bracing such as “moon boots”. Our braces are sourced from international companies such as DJO, Össur, Ottobock and Breg.

OTS - Soft Supportive Ankle bracing

These ankle braces give your ankle the required support after a strain or sprain. They are also used during the rehabilitative process to allow you to return to full function while still giving the support needed.

  • Ankle strains and sprains
  • Mild to moderate ligament instability.
  • Additional support while doing activities – rugby, squash, tennis, netball, soccer

OTS - Rigid Ankle Bracing

These devices are used after a traumatic accident or post-surgical intervention. They immobilize your ankle completely promoting healing.

  • Lower limb fractures (tibia/ fibula fractures)
  • Ligament repairs

Frequently asked questions

Will the brace take away my pain?

Ankle braces are designed to help stabilise and support your ankle, to limit unwanted movement to help with the healing process. It will not necessarily take away your pain, but it should relieve it. The brace should improve your function and mobility.

Is the ankle brace going to weaken my muscles?

Other than a rigid brace like a moonboot or rigid ankle device, a brace WILL NOT weaken your ankle. The brace should allow you to move more freely which should reduce compensation and allow for a more natural muscle function. The brace should however only be used as required and not long term unless prescribed. We recommend that you see a physiotherapist once your doctor give you the go ahead

How long will I need to wear the brace for?

This will all be depended on the rehabilitation plan set out by the Dr. and Physiotherapist.
